Lyric from the Dark Side

Cheese Dream

Tethering the gunwale was proving impossible
the right flank of her too bare and ratted to
meet flush the port wall
insufficient rope-wear and imagination -
running out of time
the ocean floor rising soon her
Victorian bowed beauty will land on land,
boys breaking bones,
broken boys excavating a whale.

A pageant of Metallica mermaids
play mahjong on an island rock a quarter mile out,
upping the wave count to nine point nine:
reminds me of Macbeth but
with the sun shining.
Fish fish flying fish,
catching the sail
submerged in a tartan submarine,
full to the brim with
tumshies and shortbread, sea snails
at the periscope and lobster chef
passing the porridge,
passing the porridge-perfect.
