Artist Statement
I am a London-based Scottish artist interested in breath as agency as expanded drawing and performance art. My practice during the Graduate Diploma - Fine Art was auto critical and spoke directly to refuge as my recovery from addiction mediated by the sanctuary of bed and lucid dreaming 40-years ago. I experiment with spiral forms across all media and use erasure and destructive techniques to remind myself that the secure life begins with a safe place to sleep. My practice uses breath, light, and intuition to navigate material emergence and liminal human agency.
I left school in 1978 with two Scottish O’Grades and in 2010 commenced a higher education journey as a BA & MPhil in Philosophy, MA-Theatre & Poetry, MA-Writing at the Royal College of Art, culminating in progressing my life long visual art practice in the Graduate Diploma - Fine Art. My next and concluding step at the RCA is joining the MA Contemporary Art Practice programme.
